Moonweaver

White charcoal and graphite on black paper, 26x20in.

In Moonweaver, I wanted to capture the connection between the human world and the magical layer that many people lose sight of as they grow up. Using white charcoal and graphite, I created the two major elements to this piece: the girl in white charcoal, which is always visible, and then the moon, which is in graphite. The use of graphite on black paper is one I designed in order to create a disappearing effect; due to the reflective nature of graphite, it shines when light hits it at the right angles, but otherwise fades into the black background because of its dark value.
