Study of a Collarbone

Graphite, 11x 14in.

This was the largest graphite drawing I’d ever done. After drawing Sleepless Nights Add Up and Reaching Out, I wanted something simpler, with less detail and more smooth blending. I’d just bought some 270 gsm Bristol board in both smooth and vellum, since all the articles I read disagreed on which was best (spoiler: I prefer smooth). But since I heard that vellum was perfect for smooth blending, I choose to do a study of a collarbone. Most artists (as far as I’ve seen) have typically chosen facial features or hands to focus on in close up studies, and most will simply draw a broken line or a smudge to indicate a collarbone. So I wanted to get up close and focus on a relatively forgotten part of the body.
