Honorable Mention—Scholastic Arts and Writing 2023

When I started this on 12/17/21, I knew it was going to be the most challenging thing I’d ever done. Not only was the subject unfamiliar to me (I actually don’t like sunflowers and I don’t like drawing plants) but the way I went about drawing this was entirely different as well. I was using a drawing board and an easel for the first time (and I found that I didn’t like that), I was using a blur effect to draw the focus to the flower, I had an intense bokeh effect in the background, which was a grind, I tell you. I redid the background like five times and that consisted of most of the time spent on this project. And I’m sorry I’m complaining so much, but it was a pain. I’m glad I finished, though. Of everything I’ve ever made, nothing stands out quite like this.
