After making many graphite drawings, I thought I’d make a study of yellow poppies. “Just a study,” I told myself. Of course, it ended up being much more than that. I enjoyed this loose feeling of slapping on colors and playing with the palette knife for texture. I sort of just let the paint flow through me and I had a lot of fun not taking this too seriously or following any techniques to make it look realistic or academic.
